A visit from the Travelling Garden marked the 200th anniversary of the railway.
The Travelling Garden is a garden on the move, rooted in community. It has been taking a bicycle around 7 stations and came to us at Merstham Station on Tuesday 9 September 2025.
They provided us with the box that sits on the bike and £80 towards the cost of planting it up. A week beforehand, our friends from Bell House and Woodcroft decorated the outside of the box. Then on the evening before the event, we planted up the box with bee-friendly plants. What do you think?!
On the day, we had much interest from the public when the bike was parked at Merstham Station. We chatted to many folks about our work and they were so delighted that we were including the residents in our work. In the afternoon, we potted on our winter bedding plug plants for the planters at the stations where Growing Redhill does community gardening (Merstham and Reigate).
At the end of the day, we presented the residents at Bell House with the box for them to keep and look after the plants. Which they really appreciated and it will enhance the garden that they have been creating since we gave them tools and plants last year. They took home the plug plants and will look after them until they are big enough to go into the station planters.
